With this aim in mind, Spalding Drive Elementary provides a stimulating, secure, and nurturing environment for its culturally diverse student population. Our staff diligently works to instill an eagerness for learning that will continue throughout our students’ school experiences and adult lives.

About Our School:

A neighborhood school in Sandy Springs, Georgia, Spalding Drive opened in 1966 for children in grades one through seven with only twelve classrooms.  Serving the surrounding Sandy Springs communities as a small neighborhood school, the main facility was enlarged in 1968 to accommodate a new twelve room addition.  Full-time Kindergarten classes were added in the 1970s.  Another new classroom wing and separate gymnasium were added in the fall of 1988 and update improvements were made during the 1995-96 and 2007 school years.

In 2003 the school achieved conversion charter school status.  Uniform dress code, required parent involvement, encouragement of gifted and/or ESOL endorsed staff, and comprehensive technology incorporation became integral components of our charter.  Spalding's charter provided the flexibility to create an environment rich in exceptional learning opportunities.

Today Spalding serves approximately 500 students in Pre-K through fifth grade.  Due to Atlanta's and Sandy Springs' rapid growth, many of Fulton County's schools have become overcrowded.  However, when two new elementary schools opened in Sandy Springs in 2008 and 2009, Spalding's enrollment dropped from 700 students to approximately 400 students for the school year of 2009-2010.
