History:
Stephenson High School is a public secondary school located in Stone Mountain, Georgia. A part of the DeKalb County School System, the school opened in 1996 to relieve overcrowding at three other schools located in southeast DeKalb County: Redan, Stone Mountain, and Lithonia High Schools. The majority of Stephenson students had close ties to these neighboring institutions: the remainder of the student body came from twenty-five other schools. Faculty members hailed from nineteen different sites. All of these stakeholders worked to establish a sense of school community.
Opening with an enrollment of 1296, Stephenson’s phenomenal growth has increased every year to its current enrollment of approximately 2,200 students, in grades 9 through 12.
Stephenson provides excellent academic opportunities for its students. In addition to the traditional English, Math, Social Studies, Science, and World Languages courses, SHS also offers a variety of courses in Art, Business, Media Production, Music, Drama, and Technology, to name a few. We have meet AYP(Annual Yearly Progress) for three consecutive years and continue to make necessary strides to exceed AYP expectations.
