Founded Jan 21,1915 by Allen Brown. Originally named "The Supreme Lodge Benevolent Order Brothers" soon changed to "Kiwanis," meaning "To Express One's Self." Kiwanis is present in over 80 countries or governing bodies. There are nearly 9000 Kiwanis Clubs in 45 Districts worldwide. The Carolina's District has 267 clubs in 25 Divisions.

The formal name of our organization is Kiwanis Club of Sunrise, Goldsboro, NC. We were chartered on November 14, 1978, under the Principles of Kiwanis International, to work for a better quality of life for the citizens of Goldsboro and Wayne County, as well as our state and nation.

We are a growing club with 50+ members.  Sunrise Kiwanis is a diverse organization representing a cross-section of business and professional members of our community.The club is well known in our community for it's service projects which represent the combined efforts of all our members to make these projects a success. Our Motto is "We Build" and we believe that we can best live up to that motto by being active in each of the community service projects that the club sponsors. Many benefits come to us as individuals and to our community by participation in the club's projects and activities.
