History:
Five local artists had the desire and dream to provide a local venue to showcase their art work and that of other artists. They wanted to make this a center for artistic expression and education for everyone in the county. An artist cooperative was organized and The Artist's Coop opened in October 2002. It is located on the historical Laurens Public Square in downtown Laurens, SC. The Coop received it's non profit status February of 2003.
Mission and Goals:
To promote, encourage and support artistic expression and appreciation to enrich the cultural environment of Laurens county. To provide art and art education in the county of Laurens and surrounding communities. To foster professional, emerging and young artists by providing a showcase for them to display their work.
The Artist's Coop is the only organization in Laurens County offering and promoting the visual arts for artists in the upstate of S.C. We are a public gallery and educational center offering art and pottery classes for all ages. We offer a venue for many rural and unknown artists. We have over sixty members consisting of four catagories: Full, Consignment, College and Youth. The gallery is supported by members' fees, commissions on sales, fundraisers, class tuitions and donations from patrons and clients. We operate solely on volunteer labor with no one receiving a salary.
