A MODERN TAKE ON A FAVORITE PASTIME

While their movie tastes don’t always match up, movie geeks and owners Brett & Gretchen Williams instantly fell in love with the experience of drive-in movie theaters.  

As longtime residents of the north Austin area, they have been keenly aware of the lack of similar experiences, and were excited when they had the opportunity to start screening movies in the huge & wonderfully dark parking lot of the Brushy Creek Amphitheater in January of 2020. Since they aren’t exclusively renting out the space, they had the unique problem of creating a perfectly portable drive-in experience - so that is exactly what they did. The portability of their services led to our Shakespeare-inspired name The Globe, since “All the world is our stage!”

Our not-so-traditional inflatable screen is bigger than other local pop-ups and the specialized screen surface offers far better definition than old-school painted wood options. Projection technology has come a long way too, and we have gorgeous high definition projection without toting around a 90lb projector (thank goodness). We offer a more intimate experience than a traditional 200-car drive in, maxing out around 30 cars, with space for sitting outside your car in front of the screen. We also have well-stocked concessions with an ever-expanding menu. 

A big part of Brett & Gretchen’s inspiration was sharing great movies with great people. They love meeting everyone (and one of them will usually be checking you in). Polls for what movies to play are common on our Facebook page. The Globe might not have the gilded grandeur of a movie theater chain, but we dare you to find better movies with a better view of the stars and a better community of people.
