Purpose:
The Mountain School at Winhall is an independent, visionary, community-oriented school serving Pre-K to 8th grade children from Winhall, Stratton, and beyond.
About Us:
The Mountain School at Winhall (MSW) is a Town Academy. The Town Academy model, unique to the U.S., has been in existence since the late 1700’s, with Vermont hosting five of the 22 academies. The Mountain School is the only Pre-K– 8 Town Academy ever in existence. The other Vermont academies are Burr &Burton Academy, Lyndon Institute, St. Johnsbury Academy and Thetford Academy.
As a Town Academy, The Mountain School is, in short, a private school with a public mission that was established on the principles of equity and excellence for every child. In 1998, the citizens of Winhall, Vermont founded a private school with a rigorous, forward-thinking curriculum, creative programs, and a dedicated staff to serve all of the children of Winhall, Stratton, and beyond. Stratton and Winhall are called sending towns, an arrangement where MSW agrees to accept all students in exchange for the towns paying each child’s tuition. Students from five other other Vermont towns and around the world also attend The Mountain School on a tuition basis.
The Mountain School can be found on Vermont Route 30 in Bondville, Vermont, north of Brattleboro and south of Manchester, located right at the base of beautiful Stratton Mountain.
