The Town of Griffith was incorporated on October 29, 1904.
2004 was the Centennial anniversary of Griffith, Indiana, and the Centennial theme was Tracking A Century of Progress.
The town covers an area of approximately 7 square miles and there are about 60 miles of streets. Town functions are paid through property taxes and state shared taxes. Griffith's residents enjoy a variety of social, cultural, and recreational facilities. The approximate population of Griffith based on the 2000 Census is 17,334.
The town's business is administered by a five-person Town Council and a Clerk-Treasurer. All stand for election every four years. Additionally, business and community leaders are appointed by the Town Council to serve on various boards and commissions, such as the Plan Commission, Board of Zoning Appeals, and Police Commission
