History:
The typical small town where everyone knows everybody and the teenagers vow to leave here for something bigger but return to raise their families because it is the perfect quiet town in which to live.
Millersburg is located in Clinton Township, in southern Elkhart County. The township was named by William Denney in 1836. He was an old settler, and had a son, Clinton, for whom the township was named. The first election was held on the first Monday in August, 1836.
The soil is sandy loam in the northern part, while the southern portion is more of a clay formation. It abundantly produces all kinds of crops: wheat, corn, oats and potatoes being the staple. Fruit, such as apples, pears, peaches, plums and cherries are easily raised as are many vegetables.
Platted in 1855 by Solomon Miller, Millersburg was known in the early years as Cook's Station which was the name of the town depot. Our 23 acre park is named after that and uses a train theme in the park. The town name was later changed to Millersburg.
Two subdivisions surround Millersburg. Timber Valley, developed by Larry Yoder, located at the west edge of Millersburg off CR 42, is a part of the town and Sandbrooke, developed by Gary Kauffman, lies south of Millersburg, east of SR 13.
