History
In 1890, property was conveyed by the northern and English investors in Richlands coal and iron industries and an Episcopal Chapel built on it in 1891. The Chapel, located to the back of the present Washington Square Clinic, was never consecrated, however, as the investors and their employees withdrew from Richlands soon after it was built. It became a private dwelling and only recently was torn down.
A decade later, two lots in the Brick Yard addition, facing the fire department, were conveyed to the Diocese of Southern Virginia by Clinch Valley Coal and Iron Co. The lot was not used until 1922, when Trinity House was built on it by the joint efforts of a social worker, Deasconess Mills of the Episcopal Church and her volunteers, and the Richlands Civic Betterment Logic, Inc. to serve the entire community it was a modern all-purpose building which also housed the Richlands library and its public auditorium.
In 1950, members of the congregation voted to buitd Trinity Church at its present location in the Sunnyleas residential neighborhood. The first services were held there in 1951 by the Vicar of Stras Memorial Church, the Rev. Thomas L. Ridout, who served from 1947 to 1964.
Currently we enjoy the support of Rev. Standrod Carmichael who is our part-time supply priest.
We invite you to become a part of our church and join us in preserving its past while building its future.
