About Us:
Trinity has a long history of being a community actively engaged in "Teaching the Love of Christ." Soon after the Civil War, German farmers who had settled in the "Black Oak" area began efforts to have Lutheran worship services one Sunday a month. In 1874 Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church - the first in Oak Lawn - was formed. Church services were held at a public school building until 1881 when the congregation dedicated the first church building, a white frame structure located on the north side of 95th street and Brandt Avenue. As the church increased in the activity and people, it was decided the building could no longer house the growing congregation. The congregation decided to move south two blocks to a new location on Brandt Avenue. In 1940, the gothic style limestone church we worship in today was dedicated. After World War II the Oak Lawn area grew - and so did Trinity. Over those years we have added to the church structure, the staff, and the programming so that we can house our expanding ministry. We have proclaimed, celebrated, and shared Christ's love for over 130 years.
