In 1971, Steven Weitzman began a successful career as a freelance illustrator and painter in Boulder, Colorado. Over the next several years, he received numerous art and design awards for his commissioned and non-commissioned graphic designs. By 1980, sculpture dominated his artwork and he gained recognition for being one of the country's leading figurative bronze and wood sculptors. In 1983, his pieces began to take on an increasingly monumental scale. He moved to the Washington DC metro area in 1984, where his nationally acclaimed sculpture expanded to include environmental design, which integrates art with the existing and planned site. In 1985, Weitzman garnered international recognition when he created a sculpture on the United Nations' grounds in New York City that was dedicated for the United Nations' fortieth anniversary. In 1989, the Smithsonian commissioned Weitzman to create a 30' sculpture for the National Zoo in Washington, D.C. An estimated four million people observed the artist at work during the two years it took to carve the white oak.

Steven Weitzman founded Weitzman Studios, Inc. ("WSI") in 1995 to manage the number of commissions for large-scale public art installations. Since that time, Weitzman has created dozens of site-specific installations and figurative sculptures, including one unique sculpture that spans two continuous miles, for public and private developments throughout the United States. Over the years, paintings and sculptures by Weitzman have appeared in collections across the world, including the Fuji Bank Collection. Documentaries about his work have been produced by every major television network in the United States and shown via satellite across the world.Numerous articles about Weitzman have appeared in Art in America, Sculpture Review, The New York Times, The Washington Post and many other publications. He has lectured on public art at the Smithsonian's Museum of American Art, the Art Gallery of New South Wales in Australia and several other schools and galleries throughout the world.

Steven Weitzman also heads Creative Design Resolutions, Inc., a company he created to address aesthetic needs for infrastructure and development projects throughout the country. In addition, he is involved with Creative Form Liners, Inc., which fabricates those design projects
