Westerly provides a nurturing learning environment for all the 3rd and 4th grade children of Bay Village Schools, that, integrates learning through all subject areas to meet and surpass state standards and expectations. Our comprehensive curriculum addresses the individual needs of each student. Our Language Arts program emphasizes all areas of reading and writing. Literature units allow students to experience authentic literature and enhance their comprehension skills by relating specific topics through reading and writing. Spelling continues to be a high expectation at Westerly, as students learn and spell core frequency words across the curriculum.
Based on research from the University of Chicago, the Everyday Mathematics program at Westerly has proven to be a strong source for strengthening the critical thinking skills of our students. The program revolves around creating a strong foundation for basic skills, while instilling a variety of problem-solving techniques.
Our specialists diligently instruct our students in the areas of Art, Music, Physical Education, and Library Skills. Specialists are also provided to assist individuals with special needs and/or advanced learning skills.
