About Us:
Westminster Presbyterian Church at Rock Tavern is a vibrant community of believers of all ages, with the focus on worshiping God and living for Him in every avenue of our lives. Our worship service is one of covenant renewal, with traditional hymns, scripture readings, creeds, the preaching of God’s word, and the administration of the sacraments. Our form of worship is one that our Lord Himself and His disciples would recognize if they were to “walk into” the service. We embrace the whole family, as our covenant children join us in worship. A special room is available for parents with small children who need to tend their child’s needs. We are affiliated with the Presbyterian Church in America.
Westminster Presbyterian Church exists to glorify God and to enjoy Him in and with the communion of His saints.
As such, we are catholic, meaning we happily adhere to the ancient creeds of the church concerning the Triune God and the person of Jesus Christ.
We are also Reformed, meaning we heartily embrace the achievements of the Protestant Reformation in recovering the gospel in its apostolic purity. In particular, we stand in the stream of the Reformation that became known as the Reformed tradition under the tutelage of Ulrich Zwingli, John Calvin and many others. We affirm the Reformation’s teaching that Scripture alone is the church’s final authority for faith and life. We believe, on the authority of Scripture, that we are saved by grace alone, through faith alone, by Christ alone, all for the glory of God!
At Westminster, being Reformed entails embracing a unique and robust world and life view which ranges from the church and her polity, to worship and the sacraments, from the Christian life to civil government, and much more. The best introduction to this comprehensive vision of the Reformed faith would be to simply read our doctrinal standards; the Westminster Confession of Faith and the Shorter and Larger Catechisms.
Finally, we are evangelical, in that we seek to proclaim the glorious gospel of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ to our neighbors and to vigorously support its proclamation throughout the whole world. It is by the gospel of grace that we seek to live, and it is the gospel’s implications we seek to apply to all of life.
