The Whatcom Hills Waldorf School was established in 1986. While many schools experiment with programs, Whatcom Hills Waldorf School's curriculum has stood the test of time. The Waldorf curriculum educates the whole child: head, heart, and hand. It is based on an 80-year tradition of education founded by Rudolf Steiner, an Austrian philosopher and educator, who had remarkable insights into the needs of the growing child and maturing adolescent. We are a member of an international network of over 800 Waldorf schools world wide.

Parent involvement at Whatcom Hills Waldorf School is an integral part of the life of the school. There is an active Parent Council, and parents participate in festival celebrations, study groups and parent/teacher meetings, as well as fundraising and promotional events.

Whatcom Hills Waldorf School is located on a two acre site nestled in the Geneva neighborhood of Bellingham with Lake Whatcom and the surrounding hills in view. The site of a former public school, it has a 110 year old history in its buildings and playground. In 1998, a new four classroom addition was added to the original school building, and two new classrooms and an assembly hall were added in 2001. The classrooms are bright and colorful, and the grounds offer a garden, hard courts, forest area, and play areas.

The Whatcom Hills Waldorf School is a federally recognized and state-approved, non-profit educational institution. It is a full member of the Association of Waldorf Schools of North America (AWSNA). WHWS does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national or ethnic origin in the administration of its admissions or educational policies, nor in its scholarship and other school administered-programs.
