History:

Beginnings - In 1803 local Baptists and Methodists gathered in the log home of Benjamin Green and his family to worship the one true God through Jesus Christ. A Methodist class was formed to hold one another accountable to the WORD of God through scriptures. In 1804 Asa Shinn, a pastor who was a circuit rider was assigned to include this gathering as one of churches in his charge. In 1806 a log structure was erected on the Green home and became the first building of the church known as White Chapel. White Chapel was the first church formed in Licking County after Ohio became a state. It however did not have the first church structure since it met for three years in the Green home.

New Location - In 1816 a piece of land was given to the church , 6177 White Chapel Road, and a log cabin was constructed on that land. It burned down and in 1845 the present frame church was built. The church still stands today improved, but with the original beams and construction incorporated into its structure.

Shared pastors - In the last half of the 19th century the church became attached to Licking County charge and since then has been served by a Methodist pastor that is shared with another country church, Jacksontown United Methodist Church. That pastor is assigned by the West Ohio Conference.

Remodeling - The church has had a bell tower and bell added, has changed its entrance, has lifted its frame and installed underneath it a basement for fellowship and children, has added two bathrooms in that basement, has added a handicap ramp for entrance into the church, has added land to allow for picnics and outdoor activities, and has fenced the property with country fencing to protect from vandalism.
