About Us:
At William Penn Elementary School, the focus is on arts infusion, which enables students to think abstractly or "outside the box." It gives students a way to solve problems creatively and incorporates the creative, visual, and performing arts in the curriculum to enhance student learning. As part of this program, William Penn is fortunate to partner with the Pittsburgh Center for the Arts, allowing students to experience a variety of artists through the Artists in Residency Program. Artistic experiences have included a clay artist, muralist, and various authors and storytellers. These individuals work with students on a variety of projects within the classroom to enrich and expand students' understanding of core curriculum content.
In addition to the Artists in Residence Program, William Penn utilizes the arts and music faculty to enrich the educational experience of students. By using these in-house resources, instructors have the ability to schedule and create classroom projects through a direct partnership with the classroom teacher. William Penn supports Drama Club productions, Chorus with Chorus productions, and a schoolwide talent show. The school also works with a PTC that supports these collaborations with cultural art themed assemblies throughout the school year.
