Cantus Novus, an auditioned chamber choir under the leadership of Artistic Director W. Edward McCall, honors and recognizes veterans, members of the armed forces and first responders at three concerts in May. “Coming Home… to Celebrate Peace” shows our gratitude for the heroic service of armed forces, including both veterans and active duty personnel in the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines and Coast Guard, and our dedicated first responders including police, fire and ambulance.
“We are taking our audience on a journey of reflection and redemption,” explains Mr. McCall. “The power of music to convey both sadness and joy is incomparable.” Featuring Bernstein’s Chichester Psalms and Halley’s Freedom Trilogy, the choral selections capture beautifully the myriad of powerful emotions associated with death: sorrow, emptiness, and loneliness. The journey concludes with an affirmation of hope and love. Other selections include works by Tomkins, Lotti, Biebl, Sandstrom and Shank. Our special guest soloist will be soprano Rochelle Ellis.
In addition to being honored at the concerts, veterans, members of armed forces and first responders are invited to enjoy a 50% discount on up to 2 tickets by identifying themselves as members when purchasing tickets at the door or from a Cantus Novus singer. These special guests are encouraged to attend in uniform or with insignia indicating their service affiliation.
Evening performances take place Friday, May 2nd at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church in Yardley, PA, and Saturday, May 3rd at Trinity Episcopal Church, in Solebury, PA, both starting at 8pm. On Sunday May 4th a special matinee performance at Christ Congregation in Princeton, NJ begins at 4pm.
Tickets are available by calling 215.968.3414 or online at www.cantusnovus.org. $20 general admission, $10 for students.
