Dr. Adam Makkawi is a board-certified Family Medicine physician. A native New Yorker, he earned his graduate medical degree from the New York College of Osteopathic Medicine and completed residency in Family Medicine at Niagara Falls Memorial Hospital where he also served as Chief Resident.
He specializes in preventive medicine, managing a wide spectrum of complex medical illnesses and sports injuries. He educates his patients about their illnesses - injuries, shares findings from examination and imaging studies and helps them determine their best treatment options. Dr. Makkawi is a firm believer of shared decision making and helps his patients through an individualized empathic approach to make the most informed and best medical decision pertaining to their health care. He believes in treating his patients as whole, using cutting-edge medical advancements as a means to supplement the human body’s own natural ability to heal itself.
Dr. Makkawi enjoys teaching and has worked as a clinical preceptor in affiliation with Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine and Daemen College to provide comprehensive clinical educational experiences to both medical students and athletic training students.
He currently serves on the American College of Osteopathic Family Physician’s Federal Legislation and Advocacy committee where he advocates for many health and safety – related measures that impact family physicians nationwide and how they care for their patients.
