Allan Ramsay, MD is a hospice and palliative care physician, currently serving as the Interim Hospice Medical Director at the University of Vermont Medical Center in Burlington. He also holds the title of professor emeritus for the Department of Family Medicine at the Larner College of Medicine at the University of Vermont.
His clinical interests include end of life care, primary care of underserved populations, medical education and health policy.
He has been family physician in Vermont for 39 years, and has served in several leadership roles throughout his career. He was the first Medical Director of the Palliative Care Service at the UVM Medical Center; has served as Medical Director of the Hospice of the Champlain Valley on and off for 30 years; and, since 2012, has practiced at the People's Health and Wellness Free Clinic in Barre, Vermont, serving as the Medical Director for the last two years.
Dr. Ramsay has spent his career caring for vulnerable and underserved populations, as well as those with life-ending conditions. He maintains a strong focus on community service, having served on several local boards and spending five years as an original member of the Green Mountain Care Board.
