Dr. Martinez received her bachelor's degree from Indiana State University and her medical degree from the Indiana University School of Medicine. Dr. Martinez, a South Bend native, completed her Residency in Family Medicine at the Family Medicine Residency Program at Memorial Hospital of South Bend. During her residency she also completed a Master of Public Affairs degree with an emphasis on health services management. She is board-certified in Family Medicine and has a special interest in optomizing the management of multiple chronic medical problems including chronic pain and substance use disorders.
Dr. Martinez became a physician largely due to the exposure she had to medicine at a young age. "My father is a veterinarian, and a large part of my childhood was defined by the unique experiences of working in and around his practice," she says. "Assisting on farm calls and emergency surgeries in the middle of the night, were part of my life from an early age. Choosing to combine my enjoyment of science and service by becoming a doctor seemed like a natural fit."
Dr. Martinez believes that medical care should be thorough and considerate of the patient's time, resources and values. "I try to treat each patient as if he or she was my only patient, to give the person the same care and consideration that I want for my family." In her spare time, Dr. Martinez enjoys reading, gardening and spending time with her husband and children.
