We are delighted to invite you to the annual Celebration of the Life and Legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. at the University of South Carolina Joseph F. Rice School of Law, located at 1525 Senate Street, Columbia, SC, 29208. This year’s event will be held on Thursday, with the theme, Why We Can’t Wait: Liberty, Equality, and the Fight for Justice.

We are honored to welcome Michelle A. Behnke, President-Elect of the American Bar Association (2024–2025), as this year’s keynote speaker. Ms. Behnke’s remarkable career and commitment to justice and equality make her a perfect embodiment of Dr. King’s legacy.

Awards Presentation: During the formal program, we will present awards to individuals and organizations who exemplify Dr. King’s values through their dedication to public service, social justice, and diversity, equity, and inclusion. The awards are in the following categories:

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Distinguished Service Award (for a law firm)
Keeper of the Dream Award (for a nonprofit legal organization)
Community Changemakers Award (for a law student organization)
Special Recognition by Center for Civil Rights History and Research (Mr. Jacob J. Martin)
After the program, please join us for a community reception in the Perrin Family Lobby. It will be an opportunity to reflect, connect, and share our collective commitment to the values Dr. King championed.
