BeanFest And Championship Outhouse Races

Celebrate the arrival of fall with one of Arkansas’ most unique festivals! The 42nd Annual Arkansas Bean Fest and Championship Outhouse Races return to Mountain View for two days of fun and food. On Friday and Saturday, October 25-26, 2024, the town comes alive with the smell of 1,000 pounds of beans cooking in antique cast iron pots around the court square. Teams of local chefs, some dressed in quirky costumes, compete for the title of "Best Beans" while the public enjoys free servings of beans and cornbread at noon.

The excitement continues in the afternoon with the quirky and much-loved Outhouse Races. Watch teams race their handcrafted, "people-powered potties" through the streets, vying for the coveted Gold, Silver, and Bronze toilet seat trophies and cash prizes. Don’t miss the Parade of Outhouses, where teams show off their decorated outhouses and spirited costumes before competing for the title of fastest privy in the Ozarks.

A hint of autumn in the air means outhouse racers are being constructed and bean and cornbread recipes perfected for the Arkansas Bean Fest and Great Arkansas Championship Outhouse Race, to be held Friday and Saturday, October 25-26th, 2024 in Mountain View.

This great events has a Parade of Outhouses around 1 p.m on Saturday. The crowd gathers to cheer for their favorite "people powered potty" team of driver and pushers. The wheeled outhouses are outfitted with a steering device for the driver (while sitting on a potty seat), with power provided by two pushers. Teams get into the spirit by dressing in costumes to fit the theme of their privy. All sense of decorum is abandoned as the racers line up and run in heats on Howard Ave. to determine the fastest privy in the Ozarks. Teams compete for the revered Gold, Silver and Bronze toilet seat awards and cash prizes.
