First Day Hikes is a national-led effort that encourages individuals and families to experience, with a seasoned guide, the beautiful natural and cultural resources found in the outdoors and in doing so may inspire them to take advantage of these treasures throughout the year and an individual’s lifetime. Nature has been proven to boost our moods and make us feel healthy and exploring the outdoors is the perfect way to start the new year.

Location: Meet at the Donner Memorial State Park Visitor Center. We will be snowshoeing along the Nature Trail.

Parking: Parking available in the Visitor Center Lot ($10 parking rate/ $9 senior parking rate).

What to Expect: This tour will last approximately 90-minutes and cover 1.5 miles with short educational stops at exceptional viewpoints including the Pioneer Monument, Murphy Cabin site, and natural features.

Length of Hike: 1.5 mile, 2 hours

Preparation: Participants are responsible for bringing their own snowshoes, warm layers, and sun protection. Water and a small snack are recommended.  

Special Instructions: If snow conditions are not appropriate for snowshoeing, tour may become a walking tour and traction devices on boots may be helpful. We will provide a 48-hour cancelation notice if unsafe weather conditions persist.

Ages: All ages. Children must be accompanied by an adult.
