First Day Hikes is a national-led effort that encourages individuals and families to experience, with a seasoned guide, the beautiful natural and cultural resources found in the outdoors and in doing so may inspire them to take advantage of these treasures throughout the year and an individual’s lifetime. Nature has been proven to boost our moods and make us feel healthy and exploring the outdoors is the perfect way to start the new year.

Location: Meet at Silvercrest Picnic Area. Trail: Boucher Loop Road

Parking: Park in the Silvercrest parking lot. $10 Parking fee. Please bring cash.

What to Expect: Our hike will begin at Silvercrest Picnic Area and bring us up Boucher Loop Road, a road roughly 6/10ths of a mile, 1.2 miles in total, with roughly 300 ft elevation gain.

Hike begins at 10:30 a.m. and ends around noon.  

Length of Hike: 1.2 mile, 2 hours

Preparation: Wear sturdy shoes and dress in layers! It will be cold. Bring water and a snack.

Special Instructions: Dogs are allowed, but they must be on a leash at all times and leashes must be no longer than 6 ft. Inclement weather may cancel hike.  

Ages: Hike recommended for children ages 5 and up. Children must be accompanied by an adult.
