First Day Hikes is a national-led effort that encourages individuals and families to experience, with a seasoned guide, the beautiful natural and cultural resources found in the outdoors and in doing so may inspire them to take advantage of these treasures throughout the year and an individual’s lifetime. Nature has been proven to boost our moods and make us feel healthy and exploring the outdoors is the perfect way to start the new year.
Location: Cypress Grove Trail. Meet at the Information Station
Parking: $10 day-use vehicle parking fee at entry kiosk. Parking may be available in the Sea Lion Point parking lot. Free parking along Highway 1, southbound only.
What to Expect: Join us for a captivating stroll along the scenic Cypress Grove Trail that showcases the rare Monterey cypress grove. We'll learn about cypress tree ecology, explore the park's unique geology, look for seabirds, harbor seals, and other plants/animals.
Length of Hike: 1.0 mile, 1 hours
Preparation: Participants should carry water, raingear (depending on weather), and wear sturdy shoes. Trails are not ideal for strollers; child carriers and backpacks work well.
Special Instructions: Steady rain will cancel hike.
Ages: All ages welcome. Children must be accompanied by an adult.
