First Day Hikes is a national-led effort that encourages individuals and families to experience, with a seasoned guide, the beautiful natural and cultural resources found in the outdoors and in doing so may inspire them to take advantage of these treasures throughout the year and an individual’s lifetime. Nature has been proven to boost our moods and make us feel healthy and exploring the outdoors is the perfect way to start the new year.
Location: Meet at the bridge between the ponds in the center of the park.
Parking: Metered parking is available around the park grounds.
What to Expect: Take a walk on the grounds of Sutter's Fort to find out why urban parks, their plants, and trees are so vital. The park features accessible pathways, with only slight change in elevation. The hike may go on the lawn for a closer look at items of interest.
Length of Hike: 0.5 mile, 1 hours
Preparation: Bring a water bottle and wear clothing and shoes that would be comfortable for a light walk in Sacramento. Dogs are allowed on-leash.
Special Instructions: Heavy rain will cancel hike.
Ages: All ages! Children must be accompanied by an adult.
