Take the route less traveled on this First Day Hike through Gans Creek Wild Area. The area's rugged terrain will provide the challenge of a vigorous hike up and down hills but will also provide grand views from overlooks including Shooting Star Bluff.
We will meet at the Wagon Wheel Trailhead and will hike approximately 4 miles on Gans Creek Wild Area Trail. We will visit a shelter cave on the side of a steep hill, and there will be good opportunities to see birds and other wildlife. The trail features two creek crossings that are rocky and usually allow hikers to keep their feet dry; if the water is up, the route will be adjusted to avoid crossing Gans Creek.
This hike is for ages 8 and up and is not stroller accessible. We prefer that dogs do not join us on the hike. Participants should bring water, dress for the weather, and wear shoes that are suitable for muddy or snowy conditions. This event is free, but space is limited and registration is required.
