First Day Hike - Mindfulness 6-Mile Loop at Bastrop

Start 2025 off on the right foot by strapping on your hiking boots and hitting the trails in a state park! Join a ranger for a longer hike on newer sections of trails that were just opened this last year in 2024!

Start the New Year off by joining in an awesome tradition celebrated around the country!  First Day Hikes encourage people to hit the trails on Jan. 1!  Start 2025 off by participating in a healthy activity and surround yourself in the peace of nature! Sign up required. Sign up info below.

For those wanting a longer adventure on New Year's Day, join a ranger on a 6-mile guided hike through newly opened sections of trails.

We will be parking along Harmon Road and hiking the Lost Pines Loop to the Heron Hideaway Lake Loop, back to the Lost Pines Loop and then along Harmon Road to get back to our vehicles. All of that will total around 6 miles. We will hike mile long increments with a stop at each mile to do some mindfulness practices and learn about the Lost Pines along the way.

Bring plenty of bottled water, at least one 16oz bottle per mile per person. A trail map incase you need to turn around and head back on your own. Snacks for the trail. Wear closed toe shoes and appropriate hiking clothes for the weather.

Pets are allowed but please think about their safety and stamina. Has your pet been on long hikes before? Is your pet well mannered and used to hiking in large groups with new people they don't know? Is your pet friendly and well mannered to other pets that may attend the hike as well? Is your pet used to being on a six foot leash at all times?

You must follow all regulations while in the park.

- Pets must be on a six foot or shorter leash at all times.

- You must bring waste bags. If your pet poops in the park, you must bag it up and carry it along the remainder of the hike with you until you can deposit it in a trash bin.

- You  must be in control of your pet at all times.
Bring plenty of water, a water dish and treats for your pet for the hike.

Sign up ahead of time by emailing [email protected]. Email the number of people in your group, their ages, and if you plan to bring a pet.

This hike is weather dependent. If there is inclement weather, the hike will be canceled.

Park day-use entrance fees do apply.  New Year's Day will be busy in the park! To ensure your entrance into the park, please make sure to grab your day pass ahead of time by booking online.
