Join Galen Abdur-Razzaq for a combination musical performance and presentation chronicling jazz music from the turn of the century to present day.
This virtual program opens with a live flute prelude, followed by a lecture illustrating how jazz became a form of advocacy for the Civil Rights Movement, with proceeds from jazz concerts used to finance major events such as the Freedom Rides and the March on Washington in 1963. Various artists, their music, their struggles, and their influence on the evolution of jazz will be highlighted.
