Highly Acclaimed Russian Mandolin Virtuoso Coming to the Providence Music Mansion
March. 22, 2025. Providence, RI -- Josh Bell, conductor and director of the L'Esperance Mandolin Ensemble, announced that Russian virtuoso Ekaterina Skliar will be the featured performer in a March 22, 2025 concert at the Providence Music Mansion. Skliar will join L'Esperance in performances of Antonio Vivaldi's Concierto for Liuto, Yasuo Kuwahara's Japanese Autumn, Ralph Vaughan William's English Folk Song Suite and Percy Grainger's Capriole Suite.
"We are very proud to bring a mandolinist of Ekaterina's caliber to Rhode Island. Providence has been a key contributor to the advancement of the mandolin and bringing such talent here continues that tradition," said Bell.
Skliar has performed with numerous chamber ensembles and orchestras in Russia, Europe and the U.S. Her vast repertoire includes transcriptions of classical music, original works for mandolin and domra, and contemporary music. She is a winner of the 2019 Astral National Auditions, a U.S. based program designed to recognize "rising star talent" among classical instrumentalists..
Skliar has been performing publicly since age of 11, when she debuted with the Russian Folk Instrument Orchestra of the Buryatia Republic. She studied at the Novosibirsk Specialized Music School and graduated from the M. Glinka Novosibirsk State Conservatory in Russia. She has performed throughout the U.S. and Russia as a symphonic soloist, a soloist, and with Russian folk instrument orchestras and chamber ensembles and has won numerous awards and competitions.
In 2019, in addition to the Astral award, she won a Silver Medal Global Music Award for her solo domra recording. Other prestigious awards include top prize from the International Music Competition of Folk Instrument Performers, "The Hope" Prize, and the Kaleidoscope Instrumental and Vocal Competition.
