A new art exhibition featuring 35 Native American artists and curated by Danielle SeeWalker will be opened at a reception at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, March 19, 2025, at Golden History Museum, 923 10th Street in Golden.
Sponsored in part by Colorado Creative Industries, the exhibit called This is Native Art features various aesthetics and compositions while challenging the narrative of what Native American art is and what people expect it to be. Their powerful expressions demonstrate diversity while weaving a shared view of Indigenous knowledge. As contemporary Native American art gains an increase of visibility across the country, this exhibition charts a glimpse into the often-untold stories of Native America and the significance of affirming Native modernism.
The display of This is Native Art is part of Golden History Museum & Park’s Indigenous Connections Project. The project seeks to elevate Native American representation and perspective across the museum’s exhibits, programs, and collections.
“We’re excited to have these contemporary Native American artworks displayed in Golden,” Director Nathan Richie said. “Each artist presents their own unique view of the Native American experience, past and present, from across the continent,” he added.
The exhibit was previously on display at the Colorado State Capitol. Artworks in the exhibit will be available for purchase.
