At the concert, we are asking the audience to join the conversation about What Makes a Legend Most. Each member of the audience will receive a ballot to rank six selections, with 1 being the most legendary and 6 being the least legendary.
A true legend leaves an indelible mark that transcends time, characterized by originality, courage, and an unwavering dedication to their craft or cause. Ultimately, it’s their enduring influence and the stories told about them that cement their legendary status. In this concert, we juxtapose George Friedrich Fuch and Robert Schumann, two undeniable legends of music history, with four composers—Reynaldo Hahn, Ethel Smyth, Hans Gal and Nadia Boulanger—who, for various reasons, have not received the recognition they deserve as legendary composers. We hope that, as you listen, you will recognize the legendary quality of their music, just as we do.
Musicians include: Matthew Vera, violin; Hyunwoo Chun, clarinet; Jeffrey Thurston, violin; Craig W. Combs, piano; and Tyler Michael James, cello.
