Classes

What do you want to learn?
Expo has a class for everyone! Fine-tune your garment construction, learn about dying fibers, create the perfect luxe baby blanket—and more.

Classes range from 45 minute lecture/demos to six-hour, intensive learning experiences. Your class time will vary based on the class type and your teacher, but you can plan to walk away with a new skill or a new idea, no matter what level you choose!

Hands-on classes may require student supplies and a class kit (not included in the class fee), and some may even need homework! Kit fees are paid directly to your teacher.

Expo offers five levels of learning experiences:

-One Needle Classes

One Needle classes (45 minutes) are a great introduction to a new concept. Get some great tips and tricks to make your creative life easier, brush up on fundamentals, or discover a technique you want to explore further. Most classes are a traditional lecture/demo format, however some feature quick, fun hands-on projects—no machine needed.

One Needle classes are $17.

-Two Needle Classes

Two Needle Classes (90 minutes) are focused on a simple project or targeted technique—either as a lecture/demo class or a simple hands-on mini-project. While most project classes feature hand-crafting techniques, such as introductions to knitting, crochet and hand embroidery techniques, we have two new classrooms featuring beginner sewing machines for quick-sew projects.

Two Needle classes are $32.

-Three Needle Classes

Three Needle classes (2.5 hours) are a great opportunity to hone your skills in an intermediate or advanced class, and develop a new skill with more time to practice in beginner-oriented classes. Expect to complete a project using handwork, sewing machines or sergers—or even try a new skill like dying, felting, or weaving!

Three Needle classes are $62.

-Four Needle Classes

This is Expo boot camp! Four Needle classes (4 hours) are immersive learning experiences and are primarily held on Wednesday before the start of Expo and will not require an admission ticket (select classes offered Sunday). They present an ideal opportunity to focus in-depth on techniques and ignite inspiration with more complex projects.

Four Needle classes are $92.

-Five Needle Classes

These Five Needle (6-hour) immersive learning experiences are offered within the week of Expo, with limited seating. These are hands-on classes using sewing machines/sergers or with a focus on drafting, handwork, beading, or other applied technique that does not require a machine. Students should learn a technique or skill and complete/nearly complete a project by the time class ends. Applications for Full Day classes must include a list of student supplies and kit materials.

Five Needle classes are $183.

-Free Stage

Get inspired with a selection of free learning opportunities presented every day during Expo! You can drop into any of the Free Stage presentations (45 minutes) with your admission pass.

Free Stage presentations are included with your admission

Learn how to use this useful tool to help in altering skirts, pants, and tops. This technique even helps in finding the amount of droop in the dropped buttocks syndrome. An ah-ha moment indeed in this fun and fact filled class!

This lecture is packed with pro tips on setting rivets, from choosing the right size and type to setting the strongest rivet.
