These classes explore the practice, history and philosophy of Zen Buddhism, from its origins in India 2,500 years ago, to its living practice in our modern world. The program covers the basics of meditation posture, how to handle thoughts during meditation, basic breathing practices, and spend some time sitting in Zazen (Zen meditation), as well as sharing some stories from the rich history of Zen, and a discussion of how this ancient practice is deeply relevant to our lives today.
The classes are led by Jacob Seiryo Gendelman, leader of Warwick Zen, an affiliate of Yokoji Zen Mountain Center. Jacob is a student of Charles Tenshin Fletcher, Roshi, Abbot of Yokoji, and has been a formal student of Zen for more than 30 years. No experience necessary.
