We Were Dreamers: An Immigrant Superhero Story
by Simu Liu
As the world’s first blockbuster Asian superhero, actor Simu Liu (known for Kim’s Convenience and Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings) knows a thing or two about origin stories. Liu’s unexpected path to Hollywood success traverses countries, confronts cultural stereotypes, and includes a detour into accounting. Told with humor and peppered with 90’s cultural references, Liu’s memoir touches on the importance of his role in media representation of Asian cultures without taking itself too seriously.
