 The Right Whales of Amelia Island: Why are they here? Why celebrate? Why worry? Richard Timm, cofounder of the Amelia Island Whale Ambassadors, will draw on resources from the Florida FWC, Georgia DNR, and NOAA, to present a compelling picture of these gentle giants that frequent the waters off Amelia Island each winter. They are here now!

 Attendance is free and open to the public and attendants may bring their lunch. Seating is limited on a first come, first served basis. This program is wheelchair accessible.

In response to the demolition of the historic Keystone Hotel, a group of concerned citizens founded the Amelia Island-Fernandina Restoration Foundation in 1972 . Buddy Jacobs, the group's first Executive Secretary, will discuss the history of the Restoration Foundation and the organization's contemporary efforts.

Attendance is free for museum members with a suggested donation of $5 for nonmembers. Seating is limited on a first come, first served basis. This program is wheelchair accessible.

Special Lecture

For over 25 years, author and historian Francis Gary Powers Jr., has conducted research on the Cold War and the misinformation about the U-2 Incident of May 1, 1960. In his new graphic novel, “Enemy Territory,” Gary tells his father’s story that dispels the misinformation surrounding the U-2 Incident. Using recently declassified files, never before published written histories, and unpublished audio recordings by key individuals associated with the U-2 program, Gary uncovered the truth behind the U-2 Incident. During this lecture, Gary will talk about the Cold War, the Spielberg movie “Bridge of Spies”, and the research that went into writing his books. Signed copies of all of Gary’s books will be available.

"Preserving Amelia" Exhibit at JAX Airport is Now Open

Preserving Amelia, a temporary exhibit curated by AIMH, will be on display in JAX's Sky Gallery until June 1st as part of the JAA Arts & Culture Program

The exhibit tells the story of historic preservation in Fernandina Beach, featuring treasures from the Keystone Hotel, illustrations of our beautiful downtown architecture, a large map of the historic district, and more. Special thanks to the Amelia Island TDC for their support on this exhibit.

Temporary Exhibit on View

Stories Underground highlights significant archaeological excavations on Amelia Island, from crude 19th century explorations of native burial mounds to the fruitful "Dorion Dig" on the south end in the 1980s.
