Over the weekend, GOP candidate for governor Andy Biggs quickly showed support for Donald Trump’s 25% tariffs, putting pressure on other potential GOP candidates like Karrin Taylor Robson to make clear if she supports or opposes Trump’s signature policy.

Trump’s 25% tariffs are set to hurt Arizona families by raising costs on everyday items like gas, fresh produce and other groceries, housing, car parts, fertilizers, and more - especially as Arizona’s largest trading partners are Canada and Mexico.

Several leaders from Arizona’s business community detailed how Trump’s agenda could harm Arizonans.

  • The President and CEO of Arizona’s Chamber of Commerce and Industry called them “a tax on American businesses, consumers, and families.”
  • The President and CEO of Arizona’s Hispanic Chamber of Commerce highlighted that 25% tariffs “could be catastrophic for Arizona businesses and our customers.”
  • The President of the Fresh Produce Association of the Americas highlighted the impact on grocery prices and Arizona farmers, saying: “[T]ariffs would impact our North American supply chain, and in turn impact food prices, U.S. jobs, and the health of America.”

“GOP candidate for governor Andy Biggs was quick to make it clear that he fully supports a costly 25% hike on everyday costs for Arizonans,” said Arizona Democratic Party Communications Director Patricia Socarras Santiago. “As the GOP primary for governor continues heating up, Karrin Taylor Robson will be forced to throw the state’s working families, farmers, and businesses under the bus to embrace Donald Trump’s disastrous policies in order to win the primary.”
