New website details plan to close $3 billion deficit by restructuring tax code, cutting government inefficiencies
The Maryland Democratic Party launched BudgetFactsMD.com, a new website dedicated to providing Marylanders with the truth about the fiscally responsible budget proposed by Governor Wes Moore. Moore’s plan closes the state’s long-predicted structural deficit by cutting $2 billion in spending – all while reducing taxes for middle and working class families and making targeted investments to grow Maryland’s economy.
“Governor Moore has proposed a strategic tax reform plan to make Maryland taxes simpler, fairer, and pro-growth. 82% of Marylanders will either get a tax cut or see no change at all,” the website reads. “Governor Moore’s plan cuts $2 billion in spending and ensures responsible spending on our key priorities to support middle class families and helps Maryland’s economy grow.”
BudgetFactsMD.com also details how Maryland’s structural deficit has been predicted since at least 2017. Temporary surpluses were fueled by one-time factors, such as an influx of federal resources in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
