Meet Historical Artist Cathleen Englesen at
Ocean County Library Long Beach Island Branch

Surf City - Historic images of the Jersey Shore, captured in the art of Ocean County native Cathleen Englesen, will be on display throughout the month of May at the Ocean County Library Long Beach Island Branch. You’re invited to meet the artist during a special program, “Looking Back 100 Years,” 6 PM Tuesday, May 16.

You’ll time-travel in communities from Tuckerton to Beach Haven, through a century’s worth of vintage photos and paintings, and taking a peek inside daily life in Southern Ocean County.

Cathleen studied art at Philadelphia’s Samuel Fleischer Art Memorial, the Philadelphia College of Art, and Stockton State College. She attracts active followers through her website and Facebook.

Adopting her slogan, “Keeping local history alive, one painting at a time,” Cathleen endows each watercolor, acrylic and oil painting with fine details, the result of research through historical societies and libraries, rare photos, and talks with residents.

Her art has been displayed in Princeton’s Palmer Inn and the executive offices of Public Service Electric and Gas. McDonald’s commissioned Cathleen’s archival paintings of Toms River, Manahawkin, Lakehurst, Howell, Ocean Township, and Burlington.

The exhibit is free, open to the public, and on view during normal Branch operating hours. Please register at www.theoceancountylibrary.org/events to attend the meet-and-greet and “Looking Back 100 Years” program.
