From: Celebrate Africa FestivalM-NCPPC Department of Parks and Recreation, Prince George’s County is pleased to announce its 7th annual Celebrate Africa Festival on September 22, 2024 – recognized in Prince George’s County, Maryland as African Heritage Month.
The festival acknowledges the contributions and impact of the African immigrant community on Prince George’s County and the greater DMV area, and celebrates the beauty, vibrancy, and cultural relevance of the work of African artisans, crafts persons, musicians and performing artists. The festival aims to promote cultural awareness and understanding between the African immigrant and other communities.
Supporting businesses that support the African community of Prince George’s County is a priority for this festival, and the Celebrate Festival Vendor Village has been described as one of the best examples of genuine African customs and traditions in the northeast United States. 2024 Musical Line Up
1pm - Uasef Gueye African Jazz Quartet
Performing the music of the royal courts of 13th century Manding West Africa combined with innovative jazz and blues arrangements, the Uasef Gueye African Jazz Quartet creates a cool ambiance and stimulating performance guaranteed to transform your experience into a journey of the soul.
2:20pm - Ni Dembaya African Drum Ensemble
Ni Dembaya African Dance & Drum Ensemble promotes empowerment, healing, and self-awareness through traditional African and African-inspired music and dance.
3:40pm - Elikeh Afropop
Using Togolese rhythms as a foundation for exploring American-influenced blues, funk, and rock, Elikeh produces captivating Afro-pop tunes that are as listenable as they are danceable.
5pm - Urban Foli Jazz Band
Comprised of traditional and modern instruments played by some of Baltimore’s finest musicians, Menes Yahudah’s soul stirring compositions serve to bridge the gap between traditional and contemporary musical expression.
DJ Kweks, Master of Ceremonies
Acquiring his passion for DJing during his early teenage years in a traditional dance ensemble in Tema, Ghana, DJ Kweks has quickly become the ultimate DJ and MC for international events. You’ll never want to leave the dance floor as DJ Kweks spits the fiercest tracks from the African continent.
