From: City Of GalvestonThe City of Galveston’s Sanitation Department will collect plant and tree waste during the regular residential service beginning this week and continuing throughout the rest of the month. Discarded Christmas trees may also be included in this pickup.
The recent winter storm and freeze killed many plants and landscaping features in residents’ yards and with temperatures warming we anticipate many residents will be clearing their yard, resulting in debris.
Once compiled, the Sanitation department will collect the debris on residents’ regularly scheduled trash day at no additional cost to residents. Sanitation asks that residents follow some simple rules to ensure safe, efficient, and timely collection of the debris.
Place material next to the residential cart and keep material away from meters, poles, fences, and other obstructions. Sanitation crews will not remove debris from private property.
Debris should be neatly stacked and bundled, if possible. Piles must not exceed 5-feet in length or 3-feet in height. If a resident’s debris pile exceeds this pile size, residents should contact the Sanitation Department at 409-797-3630 and the bulk litter truck will be dispatched.
Professional landscape and tree removal companies are responsible for the removal and disposal of the waste that is generated at residential or commercial properties.
Christmas trees may also be discarded curbside, though all ornaments, tinsel, lights, and other accoutrements must be removed before collection. The State of Texas has not approved the use of Christmas trees for dune building therefore the trees will be discarded at the waste transfer center.
Thank you for your adherence to these rules and making the collection safe and timely. Please contact the Sanitation Department at 409-797-3630 with any questions.
