Holiday Tree Recycling

Waste Management will collect and recycle Christmas trees beginning December 26 for three consecutive weeks at no charge.

Trees will be collected at the curb and picked up by special flatbed trucks, or residents can cut their tree and place the pieces in their green waste cart with the lid completely closed.

Trees taller than six feet must be cut in half.

Please remove all decorations, including lights, ornaments, tinsel, and tree stands.

Flocked trees will be collected but not recycled.

After the three-week period, residents can cut their tree and place the pieces in their green waste cart with the lid completely closed or call to schedule a bulk pickup.

Multi-family residences without curbside trash service may take their trees to Sunset Environmental at 16122 Construction Circle West, Monday through Friday from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Trees will be accepted between December 26 and January 15. Please bring a driver’s license or utility bill to show proof of Irvine residency.

City Holiday Hours

In observance of the winter holidays, City of Irvine offices will be closed December 26-27, and January 2. Additional facilities will be closed or have modified hours through January 2. View our City Holiday Hours for complete details.

There will not be an issue of Community Link next Friday, December 30, but we look forward to continuing to share City news and activities with you again beginning Friday, January 6.

Resources for Anyone in Need of Support

Navigating the holidays can be challenging. If you or someone you know is in need of mental health support, resources are available.

The Suicide and Crisis Lifeline offers free, confidential crisis counseling 24/7 365 days a year. Call or text 988 for help and support.

Anyone living in Irvine can request the services of Be Well OC if they are experiencing a non-emergency mental health, substance abuse, or other non-medical crisis by calling the Irvine Police Department’s non-emergency line at 949-724-7000.

The City of Irvine’s FOR Families provides free information and short-term support to individuals, couples, and families living in Irvine who need assistance identifying and accessing needed services and resources. Call 949-724-6650 or email [email protected].

Happy Kwanzaa!

Kwanzaa begins Monday, December 26. This seven-day holiday is inspired by African harvest celebrations and is based on seven principles: unity, self-determination, collective work/responsibility, cooperative economics, purpose, creativity, and faith. We wish all who are celebrating a happy and joyous holiday.
