City Of Kennedale Newsletter - February 2023

Government and Politics

February 1, 2023

From: City of Kennedale

Thank you, Mr. Crouch

After 55 years of law enforcement service, James Crouch officially "retired" after serving as a Reserve Police Officer for the City of Kennedale since 2013. His law enforcement career began with the Ft. Worth Police Department in 1967, serving as a reserve officer.

In 1987, James became a full-time officer with the Arlington Police Department, achieving the rank of Detective Sergeant and creating and supervising the Economic Crimes Unit for a majority of his career. James also became a Computer Forensics Expert (CFE), one of only 800 in the world at the time. After retiring from Arlington, James started with Kennedale PD as a Reserve Officer and served until January 24th, which also happened to be his 80th birthday!  During his tenure with KPD, James helped manage the Texas Police Chiefs Recognition Program, trained officers, and served as a firearms instructor. Most recently, James was assisting the court with processing past-due citations in addition to working at the police department. James could be counted on to serve 16 hours a week, every week, including holidays and rarely missed a day.

We wish James all the best and are grateful for all he has done to help the citizens of Kennedale and the police department. It has been an honor and a pleasure serving with him. James will always be a part of the KPD family!

Chief Michael Holguin, Mr. James Crouch, and City Manager Darrell Hull

Self-Checkout coming to the Library

Your Kennedale Public Library is very excited to announce the introduction of a self-checkout kiosk! In February, we will be rolling out a self-checkout option for all patrons. The kiosk is set up on the circulation desk next to the bookdrop, the receipt printer is connected and ready to go, and staff is receiving training on everything to be able to help you have a smooth check-out experience!

How does self-checkout work? Well, I am glad you asked!

The kiosk uses an iPad set up with an app created by Meescan. Through this app, Meescan is securely connected to the library catalog and patron databases. Once you scan your barcode into the kiosk and enter your PIN (which is usually the last 4 numbers of your phone number), your account will be open and you can begin to scan your items for check-out - much like the self-check stations at the grocery store. If your PIN does not work, or you would like to change it, we can help you set a new one at the circulation desk.

When you are finished scanning all your items, you can print your check-out receipt right there at the kiosk or you can have your receipt sent to your email address. If you would like to receive all your receipts by email, whether from the kiosk or from the circulation desk, but don't know how to set it up, let us know and we will show you how to make that change to your account

But, wait! There is more to this system! Not only can you check out material on your own at the kiosk, you can also download the Meescan app to your phone and use your camera to scan in the barcodes to check out the items from anywhere in the library! You can have a receipt printed at the printer by the kiosk or receive a receipt by email. Imagine! You scan your barcodes in as you pack your bag to go, then grab your receipt as you head out. It is incredible what you can do with technology!

Visit your app store and download the Meescan app, or scan this QR code to go straight to the app.
