Storm Updates

Sandbags
On Friday, January 6, until 5 PM, and Saturday, January 7, from 9 AM - 1 PM, self-serve sandbags will be available to City residents at the City’s Corporation Yard at 770 Jackson Street. Sand, bags and shovels are provided - just bring some gloves! Stay dry and stay safe!

Park Closures
The City of Napa's Parks and Recreation Department is closing Trancas Crossing Park at 11 AM today, Wednesday, January 4. Crews will continue to evaluate the situation and the park will reopen when the threat of flooding no longer remains. 

Oxbow Bypass Flood Gates
The City of Napa and the Napa County Flood District have reopened the Oxbow Bypass flood gates at McKinstry Street today, Thursday, January 5th; however, parking on McKinstry will remain restricted.     

The Flood District staff will continue to monitor the forecasts, as the Napa River expected to approach the activation level for closing the flood gates sometime on Sunday. There is also the potential that the Napa River may exceed the activation level sometime on Tuesday.  As of the time of this post, Flood District staff plan to close the gates Saturday, January 7th, in preparation of the forecasted increase in river level from Sunday through Tuesday.

What to Do If Traffic Signals Are Not Operating

Reports of downed trees, flooded roads, and power outages are common during big storms and this week - and the upcoming weekend - are no different across the Bay Area. If you find yourself out on the roads and happen across an intersection without a working traffic signal light, please know how to properly respond.

If there are no lights at all, DO NOT just continue through the intersection without first stopping. Do exactly what you would if you came to a four-way stop sign at any other intersection. It may be harder to see the powerless lights at night, so please be sure to slow down as you travel through areas without power.

Please know that emergency crews are going from call to call right now, and it is possible that an intersection could be without a traffic signal for some time before anyone can get there to set up temporary stop signs, if at all. We rely on our communities to diligently observe the rules of the road while we navigate this massive storm.

Christmas Tree Recycling

Wondering what to do with your old Christmas tree?

The local Boy Scouts of America troops have you covered!

Place your tree on the curb by 9 AM on January 7. 

- DO NOT set out your tree earlier in the week, since tree collection will not take place until Saturday, January 7.

- Remove all ornaments, nails, tinsel, stands and metal spikes.

- A voluntary donation of $10 per tree is suggested and appreciated, but DO NOT leave money on the tree!

- Please leave a check made out to “Boy Scouts of America” in an envelope at your door and scouts will pick it up.

The trees are recycled into mulch, compost or fuel for renewable energy! 

If you miss the January 7 tree pick-up, place your tree out for collection on your normal service day beginning January 9. Please follow the above tree preparation guidelines and cut trees over eight feet in half. Flocked trees are NOT accepted and need to be disposed of as trash. Please place wreaths and other holiday greenery in the compost cart.

Neighborhood Traffic Calming Program (NCTP)
The City of Napa is conducting a comprehensive update of its Neighborhood Traffic Calming Program (NTCP), and we want to hear from you! As part of the project, we are looking for community member's feedback and thoughts on traffic safety.

The last day to submit traffic safety concerns via the online map is Monday, January 9, 2023. Learn more about the project and report your traffic safety concerns at http://www.cityofnapa.org/1180/Neighborhood-Traffic-Calming-Program.
