MONKEY POX

Monkeypox is a rare but serious disease
causing illness, including a rash or sores (pox),
often with accompanying flu-like symptoms.
Most cases in the U.S. have been mild to date,
though the infection can be painful

The first “probable” case of monkeypox in eastern Jackson County was reported Wednesday by the Jackson County Health Department.
This news comes several weeks after the first case of the infection in Jackson County, in Kansas City, was reported in mid-June.
It was also the first case in Missouri.
On July 9, Johnson County reported its first case,
which was also the first report of the infection in Kansas.
As of Tuesday, there are at least 24 monkeypox cases in Missouri, and three in Kansas.
At least four of those cases are in Kansas City.

* Eastern Jackson County is defined as all parts of Jackson County, excluding the city limits of Independence and Kansas City.

The following precautions are important:

How it spreads:

-Direct contact with infected lesions, rashes, scabs, or fluids

-Contact with contaminated materials like clothing or linens

-Respiratory droplets from prolonged face-to-face contact (monkeypox is not thought to be transmitted in the same way as COVID-19)

-Across the placenta to the fetus among pregnant people

Vaccine:
There is a vaccine available to treat Monkey Pox.
At this time, it should only be used for post-exposure
and on a case-by-case basis.

SEPTEMBER
REPUBLIC
TRASH AND YARDWASTE PICKUP

The next Trash and Yardwaste pickup day
is Friday 9/23.

I am asking you to bear with us as City Hall
and Republic work out the issues
surrounding trash and recycling pickups.

Challenges to consistent pickups include:
-
Summer is the time to go on vacation and take personal time.
-Every single business is having troubling staffing. At the current time, in the State of Missouri, there are 2 jobs for every applicant.
-There are the normal equipment break downs associated with vehicles that break down, need service or need repair. You may have seen the white truck with no logo on it picking up trash last week.
That was a rented truck.
-Tyler Riordan will be at the Council Meeting on 9/26. Let me know if we need to move to Onka Hall or everybody just zoom in.

The rest of Republic Trash Pickups will be on Fridays.
9/23, 9/30
