ARIZONA -– Kari Lake’s willingness to say anything to gain power and promote her extreme agenda was on full display in Oct 9th’s debate. 

“On Oct 9th, Kari Lake showed Arizonans yet again that she will do or say anything to gain power – even if it hurts Arizonans. Tonight’s debate showed a clear choice between Kari Lake, who lies about her support for banning abortion, lies about losing the 2022 election, and lies about her plans to slash Social Security and Medicare – and Ruben Gallego, who has always put Arizonans first. Arizonans know we cannot trust Kari Lake, and that’s why we will reject her again in November.” said Arizona Democratic Party Chairwoman Yolanda Bejarano.

Here’s everything Kari Lake lied about Oct 9th: 

• Kari Lake confirmed yet again she isn’t interested in border solutions: Kari Lake reiterated that she is “absolutely opposed” to the bipartisan border deal, saying she does not support “any elements” of the Border Patrol-backed bill. Lake called the bill “garbage” and her plan to slash the federal budget by 75% would jeopardize border security funding.

• Kari Lake again lied about supporting banning abortion without exceptions for rape or incest: Lake has said she was “thrilled” Roe v. Wade was overturned, which removed federal protections for abortion access and paved the way for Arizona’s draconian abortion ban to take effect. She called abortion the “ultimate sin” and called Arizona’s near-total ban on abortion without exceptions for rape or incest a “great law.” Lake said “unfortunately” the archaic ban was not being enforced, calling on local sheriffs to enforce it, which would jail doctors.

• Kari Lake again refused to admit she did not win the 2022 gubernatorial election, she is not the “duly elected governor,” and she hasn’t moved on: When directly asked about the results of the 2022 election, Lake responded, “Can I talk about water?” Lake “just can’t help” but “latch on to” election conspiracy theories and continues to deny the results of the 2022 election, asking the Arizona Supreme Court to throw out the results of the election and declare her governor – which “raises the question of which office Lake actually wants.”

• Kari Lake has dangerous plans to spike costs for Arizonans: Lake “100%” will extend the 2017 corporate tax giveaway – a “failure” for working people that “slashed taxes for wealthy Americans and corporations” and would increase the deficit by $4 trillion. She has proposed “massive cuts to Medicaid and Medicare” and “[defended] big pharma’s ability to price-gouge” Arizona seniors.
