Design Education Spotlight
Meet Mike Jackson! Mr. Jackson teaches Graphic Design/CTE at South Philadelphia High School.
His teaching goal is put the tools for high-paying, fulfilling careers in the hands of young people. His 15 years of experience as a graphic designer allows him to uplift and inspire the students in a creative way. Mike's passion for giving his students nothing but the absolute best is just one of the reason we are spotlighting him this month.

2025 Bacon Competition Brief Launches
Beyond the Void: Crafting a New Narrative at the Disney Hole in Philadelphia
Founded in 2006 in memory of Philadelphia’s iconic 20th century city planner, Edmund N. Bacon [1910-2005], this annual competition invites undergraduate and graduate students from around the globe and the competition focuses on an area or location in Philadelphia. Students are challenged to present bold ideas that will improve the area, while prioritizing community needs as a core tenet of design excellence.
This year's competition site is in the area affectionately known as "The Disney Hole," located at the southwest corner of 8th and Market in Center City, Philadelphia. The surface parking lot visible today stands as a symbol of unrealized potential and missed opportunities. Now, we invite students from across disciplines to breathe life into this dormant corner of the city through the Disney Hole Student Design Competition.
