New program offers opportunity in public works

We are excited and honored to congratulate this group of apprentices who just completed Douglas County’s inaugural Apprentice Equipment Operator Program.

Like many of you, we’re competing for the same limited pool of employee candidates – especially in trades and labor. To reach a new demographic of employee candidates, we created an entry-level Apprentice Equipment Operator position and related apprenticeship program.

No experience is necessary to start, and Douglas County pays for training that gives the apprentices an opportunity to get their Class B License – a key to promotions and an increase in salary. The goal is not to just recruit new employees to fill vacant positions, but to provide an environment where they want to learn, grow, and create a career.

These critical positions operate a variety of equipment to keep our roads both clean and safe. Know someone who might be interested? View jobs online.
