The Medusa Cup is this maker's response to the so-called Guggenheim cup, a Renaissance Venetian tour de force that became a symbol in the niche world of furnace glassblowers specializing in goblet making. To many it signifies a high level of technical mastery while at the same time operating as a benchmark for individuals seeking excellence in the field. For me it became an obsession, first to reproduce the Guggenheim Cup and then create my own signature stem inspired by it.

The Medusa is a challenge I took on to adapt the skills and understanding I acquired through researching 16th century glass making techniques and applying them to a 21st century object I can claim as my own. First comes imitation, then innovation. More than a mere utilitarian vessel, this object lives firmly in the realm of sculpture. The Medusa cup is an assertion of the value of practice, a study in persistence, and an homage to the maestros of the past.
