Friends of the Library Newsletter - Spring 2023
Hi Friends of our Library!

School is out and graduations are here! Summer is just around the corner! So many beautiful flowers and trees are blooming throughout our wonderful town!  The Friends have been very busy since our Spring letter, so let’s get started!!

Beginning June 1st and running through the 30th, the Friends will have a BOGO book sale. Yep! That is going to happen! Now is the time to stock up on books when they are only be 25 cents each! When you walk into the library, be sure to look at the new, warm and inviting “Reading Nook." Kent Hellman made gorgeous custom oak bookshelves just for us. We can now display more books and puzzles downstairs. Also, check out our new refurbished chairs. They are so comfortable! If you can’t find the books you are looking for there… don’t forget the Book Nook upstairs. Karen has been busy combining some of our books so it will be much easier to find your favorite authors. There is a new look for the glass oak case too. It has been moved to the art wall area surrounded by our new refurbished chairs. The items inside will be changed often. Look for something you might want or need for a gift. Please ask for assistance since the glass doors are difficult to open.

Speaking of the Art Wall, we have two new artists that are displaying their works. Larry Gallagher is displaying outstanding photographs of areas that many of us know. Debbie Gallagher is displaying delightful interpretations inspired by a subjective response to the landscapes in Larry's phots. The colors in Debbie's oil paintings are bright and cheerful!  They make a person feel very happy! The Gallaghers will be donating 20% of their sales to the Friends of the Library. Come and see the wall of outstanding pictures!

The winners for the two lap quilts, that were donated by Louise Clara, are:
Brenda Lontz for the Elephant Quilt and Jenny Hoover for the Fans Quilt. We thank you all for supporting this project. The winners were very excited!

Ambie has been busy once again making our booth at Sweet Pea look extra special this month. New books and items are added all the time! Enjoy walking through this superb antique store. Bet you can’t get out of there without purchasing something! It is a fun place to shop, and you are so welcome there.

Thank you to all of you that not only purchased the Bashas' Community cards but continue reloading them too! Bashas' still gives us 6% of whatever you spend when you use it! We receive that check at the end of each month. Remember that these Bashas' cards make great gifts too! You can get one at the front desk at our library for only $10. Your $10 will be on the card when you receive it! You can add more money to the card at the front desk at Bashas' if you decide you want to give a larger amount of money than the original $10. Remember to reload your card when it gets low! The money will be used to support programs for our library. During our last Friends meeting, we voted to fund the Children’s Summer Reading Program once again. This will last for 6 weeks. Hope you can take advantage of this program. The children love it because it is so much fun! Letty has also been busy ordering special books for Beginner readers and Chapter books for advanced readers so it can broaden the range of topics available. The Friends were happy to fund these new selections for our young readers. The Friends didn’t leave out the Tweens! A Minecraft Book Club will be offered for a 6-week period in the Teen Library. It involves reading, assembling and a lot of thinking!  It will definitely be a challenge but think it will be well received.

Other programs that we have funded recently, were the cooking classes for young children and tweens taught by Pamela Barton. They had a lovely Mother’s Day Tea on May 13th for their mothers. I think the mothers were so impressed by the work these children did to honor them. It was a big success!

Be sure to check the two tall shelves, on your right, when you enter the library.  The Friends will continue to purchase “Popular” books once again. New books are added often, so check every time you visit our library. Hope you enjoy our selections just for you!
